The Blame Game

If you've ever had one of "those" mom days, you understand the blame game.  Let me give you a recent example.  A figurine that my grandmother had given me was recently decapitated in a Wii accident.  I understand that was an accident and we were all fine.  The head was in pieces on the coffee table next to the hollow body.  A short while later, my habitual tattler tells me "someone poured water in your broken thinggy." (yup.. we need to work on vocabulary this summer)  I line the children up, knowing it was likely one of the younger two, and ask who did it.  I wasn't upset, or yelling, or even raising my voice.  I was using none of my mommy intimidation tactics to get the answer.  Amazingly, NO ONE put the water there.  It just appeared.  Each child blamed someone else, so no one could possibly have done it.  Because it is the rule, they have to work together on a punishment when "no one" caused a problem.  I never found out who actually did it.  I'm often amazed at how quickly they blame each other.  To be completely honest, it made me realize how often I'm making excuses blaming people, things, and circumstances for how effective I am in my tasks.

My humanity gets in my way more often than I'd like it to!  It started with Adam... After Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit and God questioned why they were cowering in the foliage, Adam started the blame game. Adam's response?  "The WOMAN (blaming Eve) whom YOU (blaming God) gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree and I ate." Gen 3:12 NASB
Really Adam?  You had nothing to do with it?  And so it begins... the blame game.  I'm learning to stop myself when I begin to blame others or circumstances for how I am feeling, acting, how effective I am in my tasks, or even how I parent, so that I can take the responsibility.  I am responsible for myself.  It's that simple.  I hope that as I live this example from the lesson I am learning, my children see that taking responsibility works much better than the blame game.

Mandy

Under construction

I'm working on the blogging thing.. I know I keep saying I'm going to be better about it, but I've decided to use the time in a week that I normally watch tv or zone out looking at OTHER people's blogs for blogging... we'll see how it goes.  I'm trying to fix the format and pictures and stuff... We'll get there.  What do you think.. is the background too busy?

By the way...
if you are reading this...

YOU ROCK!

Thanks for peeking in and seeing what's new!

Blessings,
Mandy
